Lloyd Bond students at Loyola University

At Distinctive Schools, we want our students to dream big and explore future possibilities throughout their entire educational journey—high school, middle school, and elementary! Recently, CICS Lloyd Bond 3rd and 6th graders got a firsthand look at what their futures could hold during a visit to Loyola University in Chicago. Thanks to the coordination and partnership of Distinctive Schools Board Member Jim Flavin, Loyola staff and students, and the Lloyd Bond team, our learners were treated to a meaningful and inspiring college experience.

During their visit, students received a guided tour of the Loyola campus, explored the massive Athletic Center, and participated in an engaging presentation at the sports arena. One of the highlights of the visit was a college student panel where our young learners were able to ask thoughtful questions, learn about different majors and classes, and hear directly from college students about their own journeys.

What truly made the day special was the personal connection. During lunch, Loyola students sat down with our students for one-on-one conversations—answering questions, sharing stories, and sparking new dreams. Our students were especially captivated by the lakeside setting, the wide range of academic opportunities, and the possibility of participating in college athletics. “It was so much fun! We got to walk around the campus and some of the college students talked to us about what college is like,” shares CICS Lloyd Bond 6th grader Preston. “Now I’m even more excited about college!”

Since returning to school, excitement has been buzzing in the halls at Lloyd Bond. Many students returned saying they now plan to attend Loyola one day—proof of the lasting impact this kind of exposure can have on young minds. One Loyola student was even inspired to offer future mentorship for our Bond students, reinforcing the power of connection and possibility.Lloyd Bond students at Loyola UniversityA huge thank-you to Jim Flavin for making this experience a reality and for his continued commitment to opening doors across our Distinctive Schools campuses. Special thanks as well to the Bond staff for leading on-the-ground coordination to ensure a smooth, joyful day! We are grateful for the partnership with Loyola University and the warm welcome extended to our students. Experiences like these help bring college to life—and plant the seeds of future goals, dreams, and success.
